I did something I haven't done in ages last weekend - I spent the afternoon on the couch, under my quilt and read a fun cosy mystery - Nefarious Doings by Ilsa Evans. I can't remember the last time I read a cosy mystery and yet I read hundreds of them when I was a child. I loved Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, The Secret Seven and The Famous Five. It didn't matter that most of them were written before I was born, I soaked them all up. I loved Nancy Drew so much that when I was ten and I had to choose a project topic, I chose Carolyn Keene. Little did I know it was a pseudonym for multiple authors! I wrote to the publisher to get some more information (this was in the days before the internet!) and eventually they sent me a lovely letter saying something like they were unable to provide the information but they also sent a free book, which I don't believe was even out in Australia yet! I was ecstatic! That's the book I was sent on the left.
As I grew older I read Agatha Christie, the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters and the Phryne Fisher series by Kerry Greenwood. (I love the Phryne Fisher TV series too!) I think I'm going to have to revisit the genre and see what's new. Can anyone recommend an author?
