Today is a public holiday in Western Australia. When I was working full-time as a records manager, public holidays were eagerly anticipated. And what made them even better was when they fell on the same weekend when I had the Friday before off as well. A four-day weekend was my idea of complete bliss.
Now that I'm self-employed and working from home, I completely forget about them. My husband works shift work, so he forgets as well. When I realise that it's a public holiday, I have to force myself not to work. (Right after I've written this blog post, I'm turning off my computer - I promise!) Part of the reason is because I love writing and I love what I do. Each week I make up a list of what I want to achieve and it sits there staring at me, so taking a day off work seems indulgent. Part of the reason is because my home is my workplace now and so it's so easy just to turn on the computer and answer a couple of emails and then get lost in doing things.

Adding the book cloth to the cover
Today it so happens that my husband isn't working either so we've decided to do something together. It's kind of a grey day and it looks like it's going to start raining soon, so I think we're going to do a movie marathon. We'll pop to the shops to get some popcorn and chocolate, and then rug up on the couch and watch movies, or glom a TV series. I'm looking forward to it!
Oh and if I'm quick, I might be able to do the next step on my book binding project while he's still out walking the dog!
Have a great day!
