This month I’ve been doing NANOWRIMO and I’ve just hit the 50,000 word mark. Yay! So what exactly am I working on? I’ve actually been working on two projects. The first one is the next book in The Beginner Writer’s Toolkit series. I’m not quite sure of a title as yet, but it’s all about getting started, finding time to write, and where to get more information. I’ve done a really rough first draft – basically just vomited all my ideas on to the page – and then I’ll work through it and put it in some semblance of order.
My next project is a new romance series which I’m super excited about. I’ve left the US behind for now and I’m setting this series closer to my own backyard – in the south of Western Australia. I’m making up a town, but it’s going to be located in the Denmark/Albany region.
As I did a rough outline for the series, I realised it has a little bit of a romantic suspense vibe to it. The first book has a whole swag of potential evil doers, and although I’m about halfway through my first draft, I’m not entirely sure who the real culprit is going to be.
One thing I’m really enjoying is being able to write in Australian English – using Aussie slang and phrases, and also writing about an area where I spent a number of summer holidays. I’m hoping to get the first draft finished by the end of the year, but I’m not sure when it will be released. I don’t as yet have a publisher for it, so I’ll start exploring my options as soon as I’ve got a completed manuscript. What I know for sure is, I’m having a lot of fun writing it! 🙂
