Sunrise Experience

A couple of weeks ago at the Romance Writers of Australia conference I was on television. I was a bit nervous about it in the lead up but I really needn’t have been.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m currently the President of Romance Writers of Australia, and part of that job means being the media spokeswoman for the organisation. So when our media guru Laura Greaves arranged for Channel 7’s Sunrise weather man Sam Mac to do his weather broadcasts from the conference, I was lined up to say a bit about RWA.

It required me to be up at 4.30 am and ready ‘on set’ at 5.15 am. I can’t really complain because the producer, satellite guy and camera man were there long before I was. We had a chance to chat and work out what was going to happen. I’d spent the previous couple of weeks watching the weather broadcasts so I had an idea of what was going to happen. I knew the crossover wasn’t more than a couple of minutes at a time so I wasn’t going to have to talk for long.

It ended up being quite fun. My bit was short and to the point and then I spent the rest of the morning as rent a crowd where I was in the background as Sam Mac chatted to others that were there.

Now that I have the general idea of what being interviewed on television is like, I don’t think I’ll be as nervous the next time. And the experience has given me an idea for a new romance series as well. 🙂
